Santiago Utsumi
Santiago Utsumi is a Rangeland Management Specialist and holds a MS degree in Animal Science and a PhD degree in Rangeland Science. Santiago is an Associate Professor of Grazing Management and Ecology in the Department of Animal and Range Science of NMSU and serves as a coordinator of Precision Livestock Farming research for the USDA’s Sustainable Southwest Beef Cap Grant. Before rejoining NMSU, Santiago spent ten years developing Precision Dairy Farming and Grazing Technologies at the LTAR-LTER Kellogg Biological Station of Michigan State University. He is responsible for bringing dairy robotics and automation to pasture-based grazing systems, implementing bioacoustics to monitor livestock ingestive behavior and developing fully automated instrumentation to assess enteric methane from grazing livestock. Soccer is Santiago’s favorite sport.
