Mehmet Bakir

Mehmet Bakir is a Data Scientist specialist and holds a MS in Software Engineering from the University of York and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield. Dr. Bakir is a Postdoctoral Research fellow in the Department of Animal and Range Science of NMSU and is responsible for developing visualization software and conducting Precision Livestock Farming research for the USDA’s Sustainable Southwest Beef Cap Grant. Before joining NMSU, Dr. Bakir was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sheffield. He specializes in large-scale data mining and analysis, machine learning, and deep learning. He collaborated with the UK Parliament to automate software capable of detecting anomalies of data and patterns of abuse and disinformation in social media. He is proficient in Python, Java, JavaScript, and React, and has experience in building machine learning architectures. He taught Web Development, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing courses, co-supervised undergraduate and graduate students and contributed to various funded projects.
